Lake Captain:

What to do if you suspect oil on the lake:

If a lake appears to have an oil sheen on the surface – take a rock or pebble and drop it into the sheen.  A circle of oil sheen will scatter from where the rock was dropped.

The faster the oil returns to the sport where the rock was dropped – the less oil there is on/in the lake.

Oil sheens are often from road run off.

If the Oil takes along time to come back to the center of the circle (the spot where the rock was dropped) then there may be an oil problem.  Call the Medford Lakes Colony office at 654-7747 or if too severe call 911.
